2nd Team Match v Norfolk

4th September

Royal Norwich Golf Club

Our team consisted of: Tom Burgh - Playing Captain. Sam Bird, Ian Wicks, Mark Philips, Luis Witheral, & Rookies: Tiger Adams, Nathan Holt & Stephen Field.

The course was in good condition though the greens were very patchy and fairly slow which tested most players getting close to the pins, the surrounds were very dry which gave some unexpected bounces along with strong winds making the course a test for all.
The morning foursomes saw both teams had miss fortunes resulting in an even affair with both teams struggling to get to grips with the greens as some were exceptionally slow while others were faster. Our wins came from Ian Wicks & Tiger Adams winning 3 & 1 and with a similar score Sam Bird & Stephen Field won their match, the other two foursomes went Norfolk's way. After the morning foursomes, it was 2 points to both Counties. Our team was in

Our team was in buoyant and determined mood to finish with an overall win and the singles Tiger Adams was our lead player this match was close initially but after 8 holes Tiger was 4 down even though he was 1 over gross! being hit by 2 birdies and an eagle from his opponent to his merit Tiger battled back losing just 1 down. Luis Witherall our youngest player on the day aged 14 played above his years with a match that swayed one way then another eventually halving his match on the 18th, certainly a player to watch out for in the next few years!!!Nathan Holt in mid order was strong with his irons which on this windy day was a good ploy in keeping control of the ball finding most fairways, again always in front winning 2 & 1.

Our final two matches featured Tom Burgh (Team Captain) & Sam Bird who has played anchorman in all the 2nd team matches this year. Tom's renowned short game and putting along with eagling the 7th always had control of this match running out with a 5 & 4 victory. Sam's match was tighter though always saw him ahead by one most of his round eventually winning 3 & 1.
The singles proved to be our best result this season winning 6 1/2 out of 8 matches which bodes well for our Anglian league endeavours in 2017.
