So near and yet so far, was the feeling after this match against Midland League East rivals Nottinghamshire.

The morning greensomes were played in cold and windy conditions, Nottinghamshire laying the foundations for their win with a five and a half to a half winning margin.

Northamptonshire responded in the afternoon with a truly magnificent performance from the top three pairings, all three winning on the last hole.

If only we could have turned another two of the close matches am and pm around, all would have been so different.

A notable mention for Richard Cole and Peter Collins, who since they were first paired together, remain undefeated. They defeated one of the strongest pairings in the Midlands, Charlie Banks and Neil Martin, recent winners of the Midlands pairs at Wellingborough.

The senior team over the last two seasons has become much more competitive and with new low handicap players becoming available in the near future, I can only see much league success.

 Well done.
