Our second team ladies with handicaps of 16 to 25 were welcomed to Kingsthorpe Golf Club by Angus who started the matches off by offering insight into the pleasures and pitfalls of playing the course. The Bedfordshire ladies had arrived early and enjoyed bacon baps and coffee before teeing off and to our surprise comprised of ladies with handicaps between 7 and 26 the majority being in the silver division.
Our first pairing of Sally Bingham (16) and Kathryn Stronach(17) both from Kettering G.C. played Nikki Jackson (11) and Cally Hawker(18) and although they had a fight to keep in touch on the front 9 managed to pull back and only lose 4 and 3.
Our next pairing of Jane Ross (21) from Elton Furze and Pat White (25) from Wellingborough came up the 18th hole 1 up and managed to half the last hole with a long putt to beat Shirley Darrah (10) and Di Sparks (20).
The next pair from Elton Furze Chris Rudkin (22) and Jo Martin (18) were all square on the 17th against Sue Colledge (12) and Gina Rigby (19) and managed to sink the putt on the 18th to win their match.
Rosie Cullis(24), vice Captain of Kingsthorpe, played with Glenys Emery (22) from Northampton against Trish Purnell (14) and Ann Nancarrow (26) and perhaps because of local knowledge were able to win their match 3 and 2.
Ann Wyatt (20) from Kingsthorpe and Ann Ireland (24) from Oundle were drawn against a strong pair of Sharon Bayton (11) and Jocelyn Binks (15) and went to the 17th hole losing 3 and 1.
Our next two ladies from Northants County, Sue Lane(23) and Diana Wells (24) were playing Chris Levaggi (7) and Glynis Winrow (19) and the match came to the 18th hole with the advantage to the visitors but not to be out done Sue sunk a long putt to give them the win and end the match all square.
The penultimate match was a little bit more even in handicaps with Vicki Lyness (17) and her partner Judy Burdett (23) both from Pytchley Lodge playing against Irene Abri (12) and Rachel Rushton (17) but the ladies from Pytchley were able to win their match 7 and 6.
The final match of Geeta Patel (23) from Northants County and Gina Boreham (24) from Northampton played Di Little (12) and Karen Hough(25) and ended with the Bedfordshire ladies winning 4 and 3.
This was an excellent win for Northamptonshire lady vets 4 1/2 to 3 1/2 as we usually struggle against the Bedfordshire side particularly as there is quite a difference in the handicaps between our two sides.
