East Anglian MGU Seniors Match v Leicestershire

Our first East Midlands game of the 2024 season was a home game versus Leicestershire & Rutland at Peterborough Milton GC. 

This is always a competitive match against a perennially strong opponent. This year their squad was bolstered by the addition of an ex-Northamptonshire player, Aide Firman, since his move to Luffenham Heath.

The morning foursomes were close with L&R taking a 4pts to 2pts advantage. We were unlucky in a particular match where L&R benefited from a fortunate ricochet off a tree on the ninth hole that afforded them a win.

A positive result in the afternoon 4BBB was needed to turn the match in our favour. There were several close matches but unfortunately L&R won the afternoon 8pts to 4pts which resulted in an overall score of 12pts to 6pts to Leicestershire & Rutland.

The team were disappointed with the loss especially after the positive result in the previous match v Suffolk. It was noticeable from the L&R squad that they had several ex Peterborough Milton members playing for them so our home advantage was not that apparent. We may need to review the venue for this fixture in 2 years time.

Despite the loss a good day was had by all as the weather was fine and staff provided great food and service throughout the day. The course was in very good condition, so much so that we did not have to play preferred lies.

Our next league match is our first away fixture against Norfolk. This will be at Hunstanton on 28th June.
