1st May V Wellingborough saw the 3rd of our Hollingsworth matches.
Showers were kept away by a cold Northerly breeze.
Wellingborough packed their team with experience, fielding 5 scratch players amongst the pairings.
Chris White and Andrew Edwards led our team again with a solid 4&3 win.
Quickly followed by wins out in the field. Jacob Williams and Dan Calpin adding a point with two birdies and an eagle on the front nine and strangling their opponents 7&6.
Myself and Andy Brennan scored another 6&5 win with a rock solid front nine and wins at 1st,2nd,5th,6th,7th and 8th.
Then came some controversy when Rylan Thomas and Rory Parks match was claimed for a rule infringement on the 18th hole. They were 3 down, so fought back bravely.
The last match alive was Young Charlie Pierce and James Horwood. Strong opposition play with 4 consecutive birdies from the 13th saw them 2 down with 2 to play.
They won back 17th, but their own birdie try on 18th slipped agonizingly past the cup. A 1 down loss.
A 3-2 win nonetheless gives us the chance we wanted next week. If we can beat Priors Hall away I am confident we can qualify for the semi-final. A tall order, but a big prize, awaits.
