Northants entertained Suffolk on a warm and sunny day at at Peterborough Milton. As last year this was a crunch match. Victory for Suffolk would secure the league title. As it panned out, victory for Northants ensured that the Anglian League would go down to the wire. Regardless of Lincolnshire's result against Norfolk, our final match with Lincolnshire at Market Raisen will decide the Championship with all three counties currently in the race. However, looking at the current table it would appear that only a Northants victory would deprive Suffolk of the Shield, in view of the margin of their victories.
This match was hard fought with many close games. The match turned in Northants favour with consecutive convincing wins for Ted Dunn, David Dare and Brian O'Connell, and victories in final three games including a three holes up win for Captain Jim Weston. The final result was an 8 1/2- to 3 1/2 win with a 22-6 holes up difference.
