This is a short newsletter, to update you with news from the Society including last year's matches and details of the programme for 2026. This comprises of 20 arranged events, with matches against 7 other Counties plus a 4-way Counties match at Glen Gorse GC and a 3-way Counties match at Ramsey GC.

Then there are the traditional meetings versus the Ladies, County Juniors plus seasonal gatherings. This includes our Spring meeting, which this year is to be held at Rutland Water GC, an interesting venue with an abundance of water and across the border! A fixture list is enclosed for your information.

We also hold a Presidents Day which will be held at Whittlebury Park GC, the home course of Peter Coles, this year's President, who is in fact wearing the chain of office for a second term. Peter first held the post during those torrid times of Covid. We wish him all the best. He succeeds Rod Gibbs from Wellingborough GC who again we thank for his contribution and service.

Last year there were 20 events with 60 golfers from a Members list of 123 playing. The Society is self-funded, and we are conscious of the ever-increasing costs that Clubs have had to endure in recent times. 

So, a big thanks to those Clubs who hosted our matches and catering requirements.  

Throughout last year we had many close matches with a few going down to the last green – unfortunately we seemed to come out on the wrong side several times! However, we did win 2 out of the 7 matches played against other Counties, as well as a win against the Ladies.

We have Past Captains from 13 Golf Clubs actively participating in our events which were well represented by Kettering, Wellingborough, Kingsthorpe, Oundle, Peterborough Milton, Whittlebury, Northampton, Overstone, Northants County, Daventry and Delapre Golf Clubs.

This Society was formed in 1965, and Membership is open to all Past Captain’s from all Golf Clubs. This is a chance to represent the County of Northamptonshire in a sporting event. All that is necessary is to register with the Society’s Hon. Secretary, David Hill (see below contact details)

All Captains automatically become eligible to become Members even though they might have resided in other Counties before settling in our glorious County. Each Club has a nominated Delegate who is essentially the communication link between Club and this Society.

Finally, David Hill from Kingsthorpe GC has taken over the reins of Secretary from Ivan Roy. Not an easy job, time consuming and needs the patience of Job.  Many thanks to Ivan for his sterling work over the years, six in fact as Secretary. He was President in 2018 & Captain of Overstone GC in his heyday. To mark his retirement the Members presented him with an engraved clock with the following inscription “With our grateful thanks for loyal service given as Secretary from friends at Northamptonshire Golf Captains “
