Although the weather was very cold for May the third team match at Brampton Heath was played in a very warm and friendly way. Staffordshire President, County Captain and Vice Captain came to support their team and our Lady President Dion came over to give encouragement to the teams coming in.
Our first pairing of Paula Simpson and Larraine Betts came in with a 4/2 win to start the day well, however our second pair were up against a formidable pair who said they had both played below handicap and Gill Leppard and Mandy Francis lost 5 and 3.
The next two matches were very close with Suzanne Hope and Margaret Preece both from Kettering needing a win on the last hole to half the match but Penny Speer from Staffs. sunk a long putt to win the match by 2 holes. Divya Wilson and Pauline Frost came to the 18th hole all square and with Pauline unfortunately finding the water, Divya needed a putt to save the match, but the ball hovered over the hole and Jill Harris from Staffs. managed to sink hers.
Mary Ganley and Juliette Parish gave us another win by finishing on the 17th 2 up with one to play.
Maggie Nutt and Lin Birch , Yvonne Jolly and Betty McGowen both lost their matches 2 and 1 these matches were both so close, the Staffordshire ladies all having lower handicaps than the Northamptonshire players. Our other pairing of Liz Titheridge and Liz Palmer finished all square on the 18th. Thanks must go to Liz Palmer and Betty McGowen who stepped in at the very last minute to play for us.
