Norfolk Seniors 91/2 v Northamptonshire Seniors 51/2 

Thetford GC 6TH July 2017. 

It had to end sometime.The Seniors lost their first Anglian league match in 2 years at Thetford GC on Thursday the 6^th of July.

Six of the team travelled up on Wednesday to play a practise round.

A course where position off the tee was essential, Thetford was very dry with rutted fairways in places. Preferred lies were requested to which Norfolk agreed.

 The morning four somes were interrupted by lightning and a match involving Jim and Brian was conceded, when three down with three to play, in order to complete the morning session.

 The afternoon singles were again interrupted by lightning and the last singles match did not tee off until 2.45pm.

The seniors were up early in the singles but fell behind.

Norfolk running out winners by nine and a half points to five and a half. Special mention to the ever reliable Richard Cole, Roger Butler and Jim Tricklebank for their contribution, Jim having very little sleep on Wednesday night. Also Vice -Captain Alan Wrigley whose opponent scored six birdies and an eagle

The winning run had to end sometime. We are all very disappointed as a group and a bounce back versus Cambridge at Peterborough Milton on the 10^th July is essential, if we are to retain the league title.

We would like to thank Thetford and the Manager Malcolm Grubb who handled to lightning threat superbly. The Club has detection equipment which flashes a warning light, when lightning is within six miles and immediately the course is closed.

Every Club should invest in this equipment, it takes away and doubt.
