Our County U 14 boys friendly v Bedfordshire was held at Peterborough Milton Golf Club and ended in a narrow 3-2 victory for Northants.
Played as a 4 ball betterball match off 90% handicap difference, at the half way stage Northants had seemed in command with leads in four of the five pairs matches. Joe Hyde’s eagle 3 on the par 5 8th had given our second pairing a 3 hole lead. Debutantes Joe Ingham and Mark Stockdale were building a strong lead and won Northants first point on 14 by 5 & 4. The visitors showed great determination and fought hard on the closing holes in all matches. Both matches 1 and 2 then resulted in losses with Beds winning despite being behind in both games. Fortunately Northants had strength in depth winning the last two matches. Euan Herson, also making his County debut, with Kai Raymond won on the 16th, and it was left to Oscar Bell and Morgan Cresswell to get the winning point on 17.
Everyone enjoyed the day, the weather was good for once and there was plenty of support for Northants from parents and County Past President Dave Foley.
