Friendly v Derbyshire

Morley Hayes GC July 30th 2019

The day dawned bright and sunny, but with a big threat of wind and rain.

We arrived expecting, as one player said, to find a Farthingstone type course, well what a shock. Morley Hayes is a first class set up with a driving range, hotel, restaurant and clubhouse, and also a second short course. The management has recently started to take in members  and affiliated to the Derbyshire Golf Union.

The match proved very difficult on the 6,789 yard Manor House Course.

At lunch a one point deficit seemed a good springboard for the afternoon. However the wind began to blow and there were heavy outbursts of rain all afternoon. The Derbyshire team proved to be very strong in depth and ran out comfortable winners.

Our players  of the day were Geoff Dyson & Alistair Heslop winning am & pm.

Mike Abbotts (Immediate Past Captain)
