Northamptonshire's team of 6 U-14 Boys had a fantastic day at Stanton-On-The-Wolds on Sunday, Sept. 5th. The weather, the course, and the organisation made for a perfect day's inter-counties Team competition.
Every player selected gave 100% and contributed some great golf to provide a real challenge to the tough opposition at this Scratch team event involving all 10 counties in the Midland Golf Union.
The deserved winners, Cambridgeshire, had handicaps ranging from 0 – 8, and managed 388 (best 5 of 6 gross scores) with runners-up Staffs 405 while Northants who finished a respectable 7th with 424 had players with handicaps ranging from 9-20+. The Northants boys exceeded all expectations and Ollie Penberthy's Nett 64 won the MGU Nett 1st prize-only on countback from Northants County's Benjamin Bailey also on 64 ! Well done both ! Jadon Pham (gross 82) played exactly to his handicap as did Adam Haywood (gross 85), while our youngest player Cameron Black overcame a difficult front 9 to produce an excellent finish for 89. Conversely Harrison Panter's front 9 was very good but some mistakes cost him on the back 9 for a 91. Reserve William Nunn gave the team his full support and like many of this team will still be under-14 next season to try and improve on what was still a very creditable result for our lads.
Individual gross and nett results are available on the MGU website:
