NGL W omen's Vets 1st team  match v Warwickshire

On Monday 1st July 2024 the Northamptonshire Women's Vets 1st team travelled to The Warwickshire Golf Course to play a match against Warwickshire Women's Vets on the Earls course. Despite being 1st July and the height of summer the day was grey and overcast with a cold wind and occasional showers - it definitely didn't feel like summer and several ladies from both sides were regretting wearing shorts/skorts.

The course looked lovely although hilly and long especially as some distances from the tee to the next green were more designed for buggies than walking. The first hole was definitely tricky and position off of the tee was crucial as the crosswind blew several balls into the trees off of the fairway. The Warwickshire Lady President, Sue, arrived to watch the progress of the game as the players approached the ninth green - most of the matches were very close at this point and, although highly competitive, were all being played in a friendly good spirit and all were enjoying themselves. On the second nine holes some games finished early whilst the final game to finish was decided on the 18th green - our ladies came back from 4 down with 5 to play to halve the match showing true fighting spirit.
Afterwards a very filling meal of lasagne and salad with lemon posset or chocolate and coconut torte was enjoyed by all before a long, for some, journey home.
The overall result was a win, 5.5 to 2.5, for Northamptonshire. Well done to all players.
