Our County U 14 boys team had their moments at Longcliffe Golf Club on September 1st in the Midland Golf Championships but were unable to build on their excellent result in the recent Keith Tripp Trophy at Lingdale. Cambridgeshire came out on top once again with a best 5 from 6 gross total of 401 while Northants with 426 finished 8th out of 10 counties.
The fact that our team were only three shots off 7th and seven shots off the 6th place shows again how costly one error per round can be. All the Northants team could have each easily trimmed 3 or more shots off their gross scores and that would have made a massive difference. Putting was a major weakness all round on quick sloping greens.
Josh Bland (Captain) was our top performer with 79 , the 7th best score of the day and our next best was Isaac Wakefield with 84. Harry Odell overcame a below par front 9 to score 86 with a near level par back 9 !
Sam Mayman 87, Krishan Panesar 90, and Daniel Rees 94 were our other scores. Apart from Isaac Wakefield all our players will still be under 14 next year and we will be hoping for a better result with the experience gained from this year’s event.
