Seniors MGU  v Shropshire & Herefordshire

6th June 2024 at Cherwell Edge GC

On a sunny Thursday Northamptonshire met at Cherwell Edge Golf club for the friendly Seniors match against Shropshire & Herefordshire. The morning Greensomes were very successful, with no Northants pairings losing and we concluded the morning session with a strong 4.5 to 1.5 lead going into lunch. 

Hopes were high for a first win of the season, but unfortunately S&H showed their strength in depth and won the afternoon session by 8 to 4 points, which meant that Northamptonshire narrowly lost the overall match by 9.5 to 8.5. Special mention should go to the pairings of Alistair Heslop & Andrew Macdonald, Ian Dallas & Rob Clark who were undefeated on the day. Once again, everyone agreed that these County Friendly matches are a great success, played in a wonderful atmosphere. They serve to give loyal and long-serving players opportunities to play representative, competitive golf at a higher level in a convivial spirit. Greensomes format is our strength which we need to build on for the Better Ball afternoon sessions.

Thanks must be given to the catering team at Cherwell Edge who looked after us so well and the Green Staff who presented the course in good condition.
