East Anglian MGU Seniors Match v Suffolk

Our first league game of the 2024 season was a home game versus Suffolk at Collingtree Park GC. The weather was warm and pleasant to start but the wind picked up throughout the day to create challenging conditions.

Due to the wet weather so far this season like most courses the green staff have faced difficulty in preparing their golf course. Collingtree Park was in good shape, however there was a premium in hitting the fairways as the rough outside the first cut was punishing.

Last year against Suffolk we lost the opening foursomes 5-0 but we were able to turn this around by taking a 3.5 to 1.5 advantage into the afternoon singles.

We were able to extend our advantage in the afternoon singles, 7.5 to 2.5, confirming a 11 to 4 overall win. There were some strong individual wins however 4 games went down the 18th, a challenging hole at the best of times, and we gained 3.5 pts out of a possible 4, well played Dominic, Alan, Ian and Tony for the strong play down the stretch.

A big thankyou goes to Collingtree Park for hosting on the day. We were well looked after from start to finish. They were very accommodating in bringing forward the evening meal to aid Suffolk on their return journey and the evening meal deserved a special mention. The Suffolk captain was very impressed with all facilities and the improvements made since their last visit 2 years ago.

Our next match is against Leicestershire at Peterborough Milton GC, this is always competitive and we need to keep this momentum to obtain another win.
