Friendly Seniors Match v Warwickshire

17th June 2024 at Northampton GC

It finally felt like summer had arrived today at Northampton Golf Club. The golf course was in great condition and despite the greens being freshly sanded just before we teed off, they were immaculate, if a little slow.

The morning Greensomes was a hard fought affair, with Warwickshire coming out ahead by 4.5 points to 1.5 with Overstone pair Andrew Macdonald & Jay Wiggins winning 3&2 and Alan Lindsay & Mick Barnett bringing in the half.

In the afternoon, the high standard of play continued. Roger Butler unfortunately had to play the Warwickshire pair by himself when Gary Grimmitt retired with an injured back after the 3rd hole. Despite carding a number of birdies, Roger went down 5 and 4 but at least that gave him more time to spend in the bar with fellow Roger, the Warwickshire captain!

Three of the afternoon 4BBB matches went to the 18th, but Northants were only victorious in one of these tight fought games, the pairing of Jay Wiggins and Andrew Macdonald who deserve special mention as they were the only undefeated Northamptonshire players on the day. 

Rob Price and Grahame Castle brought in the other victory winning 2 and 1. The afternoon session was lost by 8 points to 4, resulting in an overall loss 12.5 to 5.5. 

Thanks to Northampton GC for hosting a very enjoyable day and to the catering staff for looking after us so well.
