Anglian  League Seniors Match v Norfolk

A bright and breezy day at Collingtree Golf club for our home Anglian league match v Norfolk. Last year the game came down to the last putt on the 18th of the final match. This year it was just as close but sadly we came up just short.

With the recent dry weather and the wind the course was playing firm and tough however the greens were accepting a well struck shot and were rolling true.

In the morning foursomes there were 3 halved matches but unfortunately, we lost the other 2 games to go into lunch down 3.5 to 1.5.

If anything, the wind got stronger in the afternoon, and all was to play for. We started well winning the top 2 matches to reduce the deficit but then we lost games in the middle of the line up. With 4 matches outstanding we needed to win all 4 to half the match overall. We managed to win 2 of those however the other 2 went down the last and both were halved. Those of you have played the 18th know it is a difficult hole at the best of times, but this was compounded by being into the wind and with the match on the line. The afternoon singles finished 5-5 resulting in an overall loss 8.5 to 6.5.

A difficult start to the season as we are yet to win a game, and all players are frustrated as the margin between a win and a loss is small. That said the match was held in a good spirit and Norfolk were impressed with the course as they had also played a practice round the day before.

We were well looked after by all the staff at Collingtree and we look forward to playing there again.
