Friendly Seniors Match v Warwickshire

On a perfect and very hot golfing day Warwickshire took on a very competitive Northamptonshire team. The course was a credit to Finham green staff and all concerned.

The morning Greensomes were halved with a notable win by Alan Freeman and very late stand in Andrew MacDonald. There was an early morning drama with an injured cat. Hopefully all is well now.

The afternoon four balls were superb to witness. After losing the first two games the lads in the last four groups really played well. The highlight was a ten foot putt for eagle on the par 5 sixteenth hole by Gary Smith to make his match all square.

Standing on the eighteenth tee the overall match was all square the players were not informed of this until after the tee shots. Gary was twenty yards right near the sixteenth fairway and partner Dennis Mathers was under the trees left albeit with a shot to the right hand side of the right greenside rough. Dennis hit a low shot to the right hand greenside rough. Tim Barnby from Coventry hit the ball from the middle of the fairway twelve feet right of the pin.

Dennis chipped the ball to about twelve feet (he would say twenty) Tim missed his birdie putt and cometh the hour, Dennis rolled his in to half the match.

A great ending to a great day. 

The camaraderie at the dinner table was evident between the teams. A thank you to Warwickshire for entertaining us all so well.

This all means that Mick Barnett is still undefeated as Captain.
