Carol Gibbs wins Ladies Senior Championship

Wellingborough completed a gross and net double in the Ladies Senior Championship as Carol Gibbs and Ida Jane Huggins grabbed the top prizes at Silverstone GC.

Gibbs needed a birdie on the 18th hole in a gross 80 to snatch a one shot victory from club-mate Mary MacLaren, with fellow member Gill Snelson in fourth.

Huggins, who took fifth in the gross, carded seven pars in a net 71 as she finished one stroke ahead of two players in the net competition.

It was a similar story for Delapre’s Mary Ganley in the Tazza Trophy at Silverstone as a gross birdie for five points on the closing hole secured top spot.

The high-handicapper’s total of 39 points lifted her five clear of home club member Susan Simpson, with Sue Evans (Overstone) a further point back in third.
