Boys U18 Team Second in Midlands County Qualifier

The County U18 Boys took part in the England Golf Boys County Championship Midland Qualifying held this year at Overstone Park Golf Club.  With five out of six scores to count in each round, ten counties competed to go forward to represent the Midlands in the national final at Teignmouth GC in Devon.

After an outstanding morning round, Northants were in first place with an aggregate score of 7 over par with Ollie Penberthy 2 under par and Jadon Pham 1 under in windy conditions. Cambridgeshire were in second place at 11 over par.

In the afternoon scoring was more difficult, with Northants best scores coming from Ben Atherton, Jadon Pham, and Oli Godwin all on 2 over par.  The overall team score finished at +23 and Northants were leaders in the clubhouse until two Cambridgeshire players in the final groups came in with scores of 1 under and 2 under, taking their county into first place and pushing our boys into second.  This was Cambridgeshire’s first win in this competition.

This was an outstanding performance from the young Northamptonshire boys who have a bright future.  They should all be very proud of themselves to finish in second place ahead of the eight other Counties.
