Williams lifts the NGU Open

The Northampton member bagged four birdies in a two-under-par morning round of 69 to share the lead with Brampton Heath’s Alec Francis.

Despite dropping three shots immediately after the turn in his second round, the plus-one handicapper kept his nerve over the closing stretch as he finished level par for the tournament.

Wellingborough’s Simon Lilly came through to take the professional prize as he shot rounds of 75 and 70 to finish level with home club amateur Graham Bott, who carded 73 and 72.
