County duo provide the final knockout punch

Northants County’s Paul Harris and Danny Roberts were crowned NGU Foursomes KO champions after beating Kingsthorpe’s Steve Jackson and Paul Croxford in the final.
Despite playing in windy conditions, Harris and Roberts never looked back after carding four birdies in the opening eight holes at Northampton as they went on to secure a 3&2 victory.
Earlier in the month, Wellingborough’s Kyson Lloyd was crowned 2014 County Matchplay Champion after beating Nick Herridge (Brampton Heath) 3&2 in the final at Overstone Park GC.
The plus-one handicapper was in devastating form on the long holes in particular as he carded two eagles and three birdies on the par fives to overcome the reigning County Strokeplay Champion.
After leading by two holes following the morning, Lloyd kept his nerve after being pegged back to all square with nine to play as he chipped in for a three on the long 11th, birdied the next hole before safely closing out victory on the 16th.
Herridge also had to settle for the runners-up spot in the Champion of Champions tournament a few days later at Northampton GC as Kettering club champion Michael Campbell clinched the win.
Campbell, who also won the event 12 months earlier, carded a round of 70 to finish two strokes clear of Herridge, with Paul Booth (Whittlebury) in third place on 72.
Northants County duo Ross Mason and John McPhee overcame Cold Ashby’s Paul Askew and Stuart Nicholas 3&2 in the Fourball Final, while Martin Jinks (Oundle) defeated Stuart Bates (Farthingstone) in the Singles Final with one hole to spare.
