Hollingsworth wait is over for Wellingborough

Wellingborough lifted the Hollingsworth Trophy for the first time in 32 years as they defeated Brampton Heath 4-1 in the final at Staverton Park.

Richard Brown and Adam Sherlock set the tone with a 2&1 success in the opening tie, before Wellingborough skipper Jon Harris and Dominic Holden doubled the lead with a thumping 7&5 win.

Although Brampton’s David Gottsch and James Wiggins reduced the arrears with victory on the 18th, it only delayed the inevitable as Tiger Adams and Joseph Griffiths bagged the decisive point with two holes to spare.

Damian Magill and Dean Smith capped a fine Wellingborough performance with a win on the first extra hole in the remaining tie as the club secured the prestigious team title for the fourth time in their history.
