The County’s most consistent and successful team in 2016.
The season started 2016 early on the 16th March with the first of four Winter coaching sessions attended by the majority of the senior’s squad of players.
2016 proved to be another very successful season for the league squad, winning the Anglian league for a third successive year with another 100% record.
However, the friendly fixtures proved a lot more difficult with only one match being won against Bedfordshire, of the seven matches played. With our selection policy of everyone being selected for a least two matches, the friendlies will continue to be a problem. The other Counties have a much stronger depth to their squads. The overall feeling is that everyone enjoys the matches and gives of their best.
The six man team was staged at Shirley GC,Solihull. A windy day with difficult quick greens greeted the players. The team came third, only six points behind the winners Worcestershire. I would like to mention Richard Cole of Peterborough Milton who recorded the best 36 hole gross score of all of the players, on the day.
Several new players joined in the fun this year, notably Alan Freeman from Overstone Park and Alistair Heslop from Whittlebury GC, both of whom were strong additions to the league squad.
A big thank you to John Harris for his communication skills, always making sure that the players selected by the Captain were there on the day.
2017 will be an even bigger challenge in the Anglian league, with the other Counties becoming stronger each year. We have set a target of retaining the Anglian league and qualifying from the six man team event.
